Norwegian Seafood (NS) has signed a multi year agreement with De Vries Recycling to ensure that all expanded polystyrene (EPS, commonly known as styrofoam) packaging that is not re used will be fully recycled through 2028.
Under the agreement, collected EPS will be processed into high quality granulate and repurposed for building insulation materials. This circular solution not only minimizes waste but also directly reduces the carbon footprint of the seafood supply chain.
The CO₂ savings achieved through this EPS recycling process have been independently verified and certified through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by CE Delft.
“With this agreement, we are taking another clear step towards our 2030 goals by closing material loops, saving costs and reducing emissions,” said Ronald Wezelman, Head of Operations at NS Europe. “Partnering with De Vries ensures that our packaging waste is turned into valuable resources for other industries, making our operations more sustainable and future proof.”
